The aerospace industry in Mexico, mainly oriented to commercial aviation, is positioned among the most important in the world due to competitive advantages<\/mark><\/strong><\/a> such as specialization level that distinguishes professionals in the sector, the production quality, labor, and costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another factor underpinning this competitiveness is the talent crisis that the United States is going through, considering that the U.S. will have to retire 53% of technicians and engineers in the next five years1<\/sup>. This fact has turned our country into a strategic location<\/mark><\/strong><\/a> due to the qualified professionals availability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aerospace industry in Mexico <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Up to 2019, the development of the aerospace industry had had an annual increase of 14.4% sustained over 15 years. In the year mentioned above alone, it was estimated that the sector made more than US$9 billion in exports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mexico is considered one of the leading exporters of aeronautical and aerospace technology at the industry level. The United States is one of the principal destination markets for these exports. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2020, however, the crisis that affected most industrial sectors significantly hit civil-commercial aviation and aircraft demand. The industry experienced production drops1<\/sup> between 25% and 45% compared to the levels reached in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is shown in the thousands of direct jobs losses and exports that decreased considerably regarding 2019, but it’s planning to maintain a good recovery pace during 2022. The sector expects a return to the industry’s employment, production, and export rates in 2019 by 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boosting professional training in aerospace engineering<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With the sector\u2019s main leaders developing operations in the country (General Electric, Bombardier, Honeywell, and Airbus, among others) and five strong entities in the production of aeronautical and aerospace technology, Mexico is betting on professional training as a strategy to achieve the growth goals projected for the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This promotion of university and technical education has been concentrated mostly in Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Queretaro,<\/mark><\/strong><\/a> and Nuevo Leon, areas with many components plants related to this industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
