Along with Baja California, Chihuahua, Nuevo Leon, and Jalisco, Queretaro has the largest presence of aerospace companies, concentrating 50 of them. Before the pandemic, the aerospace industry in Queretaro had thousands of jobs that were directly linked to the state’s Aerocluster. Until that time, the cluster was composed of 70 companies and generated annual sales of approximately 1,275 million dollars1.
According to information from the magazine FDI of the Financial Times group, Queretaro ranks eighth in performance2 among cities dedicated to the aerospace sector worldwide. Currently, it is estimated the presence of many aerospace companies that in recent years have developed 22 projects, with an investment of more than 4 billion pesos.
Aeronautical Corridor Queretaro
Due to the rapid growth of companies in the sector, the development of the aerospace industry in Queretaro includes more than infrastructure aspects. Proof of this is the implementation of educational programs for training and specialization, both for university graduates and the active workforce.
In addition, components for propulsion systems, electrical systems, plastic parts, surface treatments, and landing systems are made in Queretaro. The entity provides general maintenance services and aircraft interiors. For these and other reasons the importance of Queretaro for the future of the aeronautical industry is unquestionable.
Future of the aeronautics industry
Since the aerospace industry in Queretaro represents one of the main economic activities, the entity has decided to join the so-called “New Space Age” to encourage private investment in this market, according to data from the Mexican Federation of Aerospace Industry (FEMIA).
In general terms, for the current year, an investment of 30.3 billion pesos was3 contemplated, derived from the generation of 27 new projects, mainly within the automotive, manufacturing, and aeronautics industries. Regarding space availability, at the end of the first quarter, Class A industrial inventory exceeded 6 million square meters, along with the construction of more than 50,000 square meters and an availability rate of 7.5%.
Regarding the future of the aeronautical industry, it seeks to continue its growth and position the country among the main producing economies in the sector for the coming years.
