Guanajuato: top FDI recipient thanks to its industrial corridor
Guanajuato’s industrial corridor has many advantages for companies setting up in this part of the country, one being Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). Moreover, it possesses other strengths that impact growth projections positively.
What does Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) consist of?
FDI builds a long-lasting bond with the country hosting the investment. As a result, foreign investors acquire capital stock in Mexican companies and obtain returns. This creates new job opportunities and increases the economy of an entity, which has a positive outcome for the country.
Most of these foreign companies — mainly the ones dedicated to manufacturing for export — locate in industrial corridors that are favorable to them. It specifically highlights the availability of suitable infrastructure for their operations and a strategic geographic location.
The Guanajuato industrial corridor
Guanajuato stands out in the manufacturing field as one of the fastest-growing industrial sectors in Mexico. It is 4th place nationally for number of industrial parks (35) and 1st place as the leading non-border exporter1.
There are many reasons for Guanajuato’s important role. But it primarily distinguishes itself with its geographical location, infrastructure availability, and high standard of skilled labor, allowing companies to settle and start operating immediately.
The Guanajuato Puerto Interior in Silao is also worth noting. It’s an Industrial corridor that is now the driving force for growth. And not only that, since it’s the one that has brought to life the second Puerto Interior in Celaya project.
What is the impact of Foreign Direct Investment in Guanajuato?
FDI is measured by the Secretariat of Economy (SE), responsible for publishing quarterly reports. These reports show millions of foreign investment dollars per entity, classified by three different parameters: type of investment, sector, and country of origin. As for Guanajuato:
